This past Sunday night, our youth event was a movie night where we showed the very inspiring movie, “Facing The Giants” (Click on the link at the right to check it out). This is a Christian based movie that had an excellent lesson about making God be your life, not just be a part of your life.

After watching the movie, I did a lot of soul searching and asked God to let his Spirit move within my heart to allow me to see if God was a part of my life, or if he was my whole life. I started thinking about how I live. Do I go about everyday life focusing on all the things I’m involved in and trying to fit God into them, or do I go about life fully focusing on God and letting all the things I’m involved in fit around that. It seems that most of the time I fall into the first of the two categories. I wonder sometimes how to switch that mindset the other way.

The scene that stuck me the most in the entire movie (if you read on it will not give any of the movie away) is a scene where Coach Taylor is facing some things in life that have caused him great distress. What did he do that night? He didn’t go to sleep. He stayed up all night reading his Bible and praying for God to show Himself to him. He refused to rest until he found some peace. (Matthew 26:36-46) Me in that situation would go to bed and sleep away some the worries that night, and then face what’s left the next day. That bothers me to a point. I need to remind myself that God can do anything through faithful prayer. (James 5:16) Everyday I need to surrender my life to Christ (Luke 9:23) and let him lead in me at work, at home as a husband and father, at church during class, worship & fellowship, leading the youth group, and even in my leisure time.

Take time to think and pray about this in your own life. Pray for me as well as I will be making some changes within the youth ministy about how we do things.

If God can help me get the youth group to buy “fully” into this concept…then what will happen to the youth of our church?

Please pray as we, the church (all of you involved), launch this new effort!!!
